BarterThat
Privacy Policy
Last updated: June 14, 2026
BarterThat ("we", "us") operates the BarterThat marketplace web and mobile application (the "Service"), where people trade skills, goods, and services without cash. This policy explains what information we handle and how.
1. Information we collect
- Information you provide: your name, email, location, the listings and offers you create, what you're looking for, optional community badges you self-identify with, and messages you send through the Service.
- Stored on your device: your profile, listings, saved items, trades, and credit balance are stored locally in your browser/app storage (
localStorage) so the app works between visits.
- Contact requests: if you submit a contact or "request the deck" form, the details you enter (name, email, message) are sent to our forms provider so we can respond.
- Verification links: public profile links you choose to add (e.g., StyleSeat, Etsy, LinkedIn) to show proof of your work.
2. How we use information
- To operate the marketplace — show your listings, match you with trades, and let members contact each other.
- To maintain trust and safety, including verification and dispute support.
- To respond to inquiries you send us.
3. What we do not do
- We do not sell your personal information.
- We do not use community self-identification (such as community-owned badges) to exclude or discriminate against anyone — it exists only so members can choose to support communities.
- We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
4. Sharing
Information you publish in a listing or profile is visible to other members. We may share information with service providers that help us run the Service (such as hosting and form delivery), and where required by law.
5. Your choices
You can edit or delete your listing and reset your locally stored data at any time from within the app (Profile → "reset demo data" clears your account, listings, and trades from your device). To request deletion of any contact information you've sent us, email us at the address below.
6. Data retention & security
Locally stored data remains on your device until you clear it. We take reasonable measures to protect information we receive, but no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure.
7. Changes
We may update this policy. Material changes will be reflected by the "Last updated" date above.
